1. Data controller

Webstart processes the personal data of users of pstlens.net and of the PST Lens program in accordance with Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (“GDPR”).

2. What we process and why

a) Browsing the website

The server records technical data (IP address, date and time, requested page, browser) for the operation and security of the site. Legal basis: legitimate interest (Art. 6.1.f GDPR). Retention: up to 30 days unless needed for security.

The site does not use profiling cookies or third-party analytics. To know how many people visit the site and download the program we use in-house statistics, without cookies: we record the page visited, referring site, operating system, browser language and an anonymous identifier derived from the IP address (an irreversible hash), excluding bots. Only your chosen language is stored in your browser (local storage, not a cookie) so we can show the site in your preferred language. Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, so Google may receive your IP address.

b) Buying a license

To sell and deliver the license we process your name, email address, amount and transaction ID, provided by PayPal. We never receive or store your card or bank details: payment is handled directly by PayPal. Legal basis: performance of the contract (Art. 6.1.b) and tax and accounting obligations (Art. 6.1.c). Retention: 10 years for tax records.

c) Activating and using the program

To activate a license, PST Lens sends our server your email, the license code and a random identifier of your computer, and we store them with the activation date to check the maximum number of devices. When checking for updates, which happens when the program opens, the program contacts our server (which sees your IP address): we count this anonymously (an irreversible hash of the address) to know how many installations are in use. Legal basis: performance of the contract and legitimate interest in preventing abuse. Retention: for the life of the license and up to 24 months after.

PST Lens does not send your .pst files, or the content of your emails or attachments, to Webstart: everything is read and processed on your computer.

d) Support

If you write to us we process the data in your message to reply (Art. 6.1.b and 6.1.f). Retention: up to 24 months after the last communication.

e) Contact form

If you use the contact form we process your name, email address, topic and message to reply to your request (Art. 6.1.b and 6.1.f GDPR). To protect it from spam we use a verification question and a rate limit: we do not use third-party captcha services and we do not store your IP address in clear (only a non-reversible code for the rate limit, deleted within a day). Retention: up to 24 months after the last communication.

3. Who receives your data

Providers who help us deliver the service, as processors: our hosting and email provider, PayPal (for payments, as an independent controller) and tax advisers. We do not sell data to third parties. Some providers may process data outside the European Economic Area (for example PayPal and Google), with the safeguards required by the GDPR (adequacy decisions or standard contractual clauses).

4. Your rights

You may request access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability and object to processing (Arts. 15-22 GDPR) by writing to info@pstlens.net. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your data protection authority (in Italy, the Garante per la protezione dei dati personali).

We may update this policy; the version in force is always the one published on this page, with the date of the last update.
